Good to know

A little clarity makes planning easier.

When to go. How long to stay. What pace feels right.

Climate

Northern Vietnam has four distinct seasons. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant times to visit, with mild temperatures and clearer skies. Summer can be hot, humid and rainy, while winter may feel cold, especially in Hanoi, Sapa and mountainous areas. Warm layers are recommended from December to March.

Public Transport

Northern Vietnam is well connected by domestic flights, trains, buses and private transfers. Hanoi is the main transport hub, with easy access to Ninh Binh, Ha Long Bay, Sapa and Ha Giang. Within cities, taxis, ride-hailing apps, buses and walking are convenient options for travelers.

Internet

Internet access is widely available in major destinations such as Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Ha Long and Sapa. Most hotels, cafés and restaurants offer free Wi-Fi. For mountain routes, remote villages or long road trips, visitors should prepare a local SIM card or eSIM for more stable connection.

Money

The official currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). Credit cards are accepted in many hotels, restaurants and travel services, but cash is still useful for street food, local markets, entrance tickets and small shops. Travelers should carry small notes and exchange money at trusted banks or counters.

Shopping

Northern Vietnam offers rich local shopping experiences. Visitors can explore Hanoi’s Old Quarter for silk, lacquerware, coffee and handicrafts; Sapa and Ha Giang for brocade textiles and ethnic handmade goods; and Ninh Binh or Ha Long for local specialties. Bargaining is common in traditional markets.

Medical Information

Major cities such as Hanoi have international clinics, public hospitals and pharmacies. In smaller towns or mountain areas, medical facilities may be more limited, so travel insurance is recommended. In an emergency, call 115 for ambulance support or ask your hotel to contact the nearest medical facility.

Honestly the part I worried about most was my parents. They cannot walk too fast, while my two kids get bored very easily, so finding one schedule for everyone was not simple.
But the Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay trip worked better than I expected. Trang An was a big favourite for the whole family. My parents enjoyed the peaceful boat ride and the kids were busy looking at the caves and mountains. Nobody complained, which is already a success for us 😅
Our guide Linh was very patient. She never made my parents feel like they were slowing the group down. At Hoa Lu, she showed them where to rest, while the rest of us continued walking around.
The team sent us the next day’s pickup time every evening. They also reminded us about weather, shoes and what to bring for the cruise. Basically we did not need to keep asking the same questions.
Halong Bay was a lovely ending. Cabins were clean, food was arranged properly and there were vegetarian choices for us. Thank you Linh and the La Passion team for taking care of different generations in one trip.

"This is the second time me and my friendds traveled to Vietnam. Most of us normally plan everything ourselves, but this time we wanted someone local to handle transport, hotels and the difficult parts.
The tour guide team did a very good job. The Sapa transfer was comfortable, the guide gave us enough time at Fansipan, and nobody pushed us to keep walking when the weather became foggy. We changed one part of the schedule because some of us were tired, and the team adjusted it without any complaint.
Halong Bay was the best part for us. The cruise booking, pickup and cabin arrangement were all clear. We also appreciated that the team sent the driver’s number before every transfer.
Communication was fast and simple, not too much sales talk.
Thank you Ha so much for keeping our group together and still giving us free time for photos and coffee.
Very smooth trip overall... we could enjoy without thinking about every small detail 😊

"We booked our Vietnam trip with La Passion Travel after speaking to several companies. What made us comfortable was how clearly they explained the itinerary, hotel options and payment before asking us to confirm.
The trip had many flights and transfers, but everything was arranged properly. Drivers were waiting at the airport, hotel pickups were confirmed in advance, and the team checked on us during the journey.
Hoi An at night was beautiful, and the Halong Bay cruise felt very peaceful. In Phu Quoc, the island tour was changed slightly because of weather. The team informed us early and offered a safer option instead of hiding the problem.
We also requested vegetarian meals, and the guides helped us at restaurants without making it complicated.
I really miss Anna, she did a good job making the trip feel personal. It was not just a standard package. We had structure, but also enough private time as a couple.

"Organizing a Vietnam trip for a big family is not easy... different ages, food preferences, luggage, children, senior citizens, everything 😅
La Passion Travel managed our group with a lot of patience. We visited many cities. The itinerary was long, but every transfer was communicated clearly. We received hotel pickup times in advance and the group vehicle had enough space for everyone.
The guides were especially helpful with my elderly parents. At Fansipan, they showed them an easier route while the younger people continued. At Ninh Binh, the guide fixed one meeting point and allowed each family to explore separately.
Vegetarian food was arranged in most places, and if the restaurant had limited options, the guide suggested another nearby place. The service was professional but not stiff. Whenever somebody was late or tired, the team tried to solve it calmly.
Thanks to Linh, Tony and the support team. For a large Indian family, this kind of local coordination is very important!

"I travelled alone and this was my first time in Vietnam, so safety and clear communication were my biggest concerns
Before I arrived, La Passion Travel sent me the airport pickup details, driver contact and hotel information. This made the first day much less stressful. During the trip, I did Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay. The guide was friendly but also gave me enough space. I never felt like I had to follow a group every minute
Trang An was my favourite stop. The boat ride was calm and the guide explained what to bring before leaving Hanoi. The Halong Bay cruise was also well arranged, including pickup and boarding
As a solo female traveller, I felt safe throughout the trip. Thank you Sophie for checking that I reached the hotel after the tour. Really appreciated that small gesture. I wish your company every success in future and hope that you expand your service's outside your borders

Ben gave us great food tips in Hanoi before we left for Halong Bay. The cruise transfer, Da Nang flight and Hoi An evening were all smooth. Simple communication, no drama. 😊

We expected this six-day route to feel rushed, but the timing was better than we thought. Ted explained before payment which days would be full, especially Halong and Ba Na Hills. Marble Mountains and Hoi An were my favorite stops. The invoice was clear, and the team sent reminders before each transfer. The service felt practical and well coordinated.

We travelled as two couples and wanted a mix of scenery and culture. Hanoi gave us history, Halong Bay gave us a break, and Hoi An was the softest, prettiest evening. David explained travel times honestly before we paid. The final cost matched the quotation, which we appreciated. It made the whole trip easier to enjoy.

Anna’s reminders about shoes and weather were actually useful. Lao Chai, Ta Van and Cat Cat Village were beautiful, and the Halong cruise check-in was easy. Good support through WhatsApp.

We booked this route for our honeymoon because it combined mountains and a cruise. Linh helped with room preferences and sent a neat confirmation before arrival. Sapa felt fresh, especially around Lao Chai and Ta Van, while Halong Bay was calm and romantic. The guide even helped us take photos naturally. We felt looked after without being followed too closely. 💕
