Good to know
A better trip starts with the right pace.
A better trip starts with the right pace.
The south feels easiest when city time and river time are balanced well.
Climate
Southern Vietnam has a tropical climate with warm weather all year round. The dry season usually runs from November to April, ideal for city tours, beach escapes and river trips. The rainy season lasts from May to October, with short heavy showers, so a light raincoat is useful.
Public Transport
Southern Vietnam is easy to explore by plane, bus, private car or speedboat. Ho Chi Minh City is the main transport hub, connecting visitors to the Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc, Mui Ne and Vung Tau. In cities, taxis, ride-hailing apps and motorbike services are convenient options.
Internet
Internet access is widely available in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Phu Quoc and other major destinations. Most hotels, cafés, restaurants and shopping malls offer free Wi-Fi. For island trips, countryside routes or Mekong Delta excursions, visitors should prepare a local SIM card or eSIM.
Money
The official currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). Credit cards are accepted in many hotels, restaurants and shopping centers, especially in Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc. However, cash is still important for local markets, street food, small boats, taxis and countryside experiences.
Shopping
Southern Vietnam offers a vibrant shopping scene, from modern malls in Ho Chi Minh City to floating markets in the Mekong Delta. Visitors can buy coffee, dried fruits, coconut products, silk, handicrafts and local snacks. Traditional markets are great for souvenirs, but bargaining is often expected.
Medical Information
Ho Chi Minh City has many international clinics, public hospitals and pharmacies. Medical services in smaller towns or island areas may be more limited, so travel insurance is recommended. In an emergency, call 115 or ask your hotel to contact the nearest hospital or medical support service.
